cultural renaissance in downtown providence

While Providence's "renaissance" began to take shape in the 1970s, the city truly received a complete makeover in the 1990s as the city showcased its artistic and cultural strength, and pushed for a comprehensive downtown revitalization. Throughout this time the downtown waterways were uncovered as Providence WaterFire was born, Waterplace Park was created, the Providence Place Mall was erected, and the restoration of many of the city's cherished landmarks was undertaken.

While visiting our downtown Providence hotel, be sure to experience the local flavor with a visit to these popular cultural attractions.

Trinity Repertory Theatre (located .3 miles from our hotel)

Simply known as Trinity Rep to locals, the theatre was founded in 1963 and is held in high regard amongst the country's regional theatres. Throughout the year the theatre company presents a balanced portfolio of classical productions, world premieres and modern-contemporary features.

Additionally, each holiday season A Christmas Carol is performed for an estimated annual audience of 160,000. In the theatre's nearly 50-year history, it has produced over 50 world premieres and has had members win several Tony awards.

Providence Performing Arts Center (located .4 miles from our hotel)

Originally opened in 1928 as the Loew's State Movie Palace, the "Jewel on Weybosset Street" today is The Providence Performing Arts Center. This world-class venue is located in the heart of Providence's arts and entertainment district and, with its 3,100 seat capacity is the second largest theatre of its kind in New England.

Throughout the performance season, visitors can enjoy concerts, first-rate Broadway touring performances, contemporary acts and plays spanning all genres.

Dunkin' Donuts Center (connected to our hotel via an enclosed skywalk)

The "Dunk" as it is known throughout the community, hosts numerous events throughout the year spanning from the Providence Bruins (minor league affiliate to the Boston Bruins), the Providence College men's basketball home games, large concerts and more.

The arena completed a significant renovation in 2008 that included expanded concourses, upgraded facilities, new seating and an indoor connection to the Rhode Island Convention Center.
