Despite initial struggles with consistency and capturing victories, the Providence Bruins today consistently rank as one of the most competitive and successful American Hockey League teams. The team captured its first, and only, Calder Cup during the remarkable 1998-1999 season, when the team skated to 56 victories and defeated the Rochester American's for the league's highest accolade.
As the primary development team for the Boston Bruins, the Providence Bruins has produced some of the NHL's top talent. Notable alumni, who all played over 100 games as a member of the Providence Bruins include: Tim Thomas, Mark Stuart, Nick Boynton, Milan Jurcina, and John Grahame among others.
